We were going to feed Africa . Western democracy was the answer for any country , regardless of culture, if they'd only realize it. Technolgy wins wars . Western armies don't even need indigenous support, technology will triumph. Pollution ? Carbon filters on smoke stacks , clean power, a growth industry of it's own. Then 9/11. Western arrogance exposed.
Would anyone suppose that we had anything to do with that ? Would anyone think that our treatment of the rest of the world would someday find it's way to our doorstep like the cry of an angry adolescent who no listened to and eventually brought a gun to school. What did we expect ? "Israeli's good, Arabs bad". Somehow that would never come home to roost ? Some tried for understanding . Jimmy Carter. But of course he was weak because some helicopters crashed in Iran and he was too idealistic. What did he want? Palestinians at the table. No wall, just phased integration of people who already work together on a few levels...But he was that southerner who quoted Malcolm X . Can't have him...then this one guy eventually runs for president cheats and wins...ok he cheated. That's why he won. Americans tell everyone in polls that next time they want a decisive democrat, war hero, Kennedy connection. Round 2. That guy actually shows up. John Kerry. He's a decorated war hero, kennedy circle, blah, blah. Americans ? They climbed further down the rabbit hole and voted for the fear monger, the college dropout, the deserter, business screw-up : George W. Bush. "The kid with the loaded gun" finally shows up and we have 9/11. People in charge suddenly realise they have alot to learn ? Nope. Instead we have the "Axis of Evil" Walls in Israel (I thought we just got rid of a wall in central Europe?) Knee jerk war in Iraq that has inspired more "students" to bring more "guns to school" and no one seems to learn anything. But out there , many can see that there is a growing fear, suspicion, even a knowledge that all of these years we were wrong about so many things. We need to listen to the rest of the human family outside of the this place with "all of the answers" before it's too late. I really hope it isn't already...
